While mythology tells us that the Ganga originated from the entangled locks of Lord Shiva who sent her down to give life to millions and wash  away their sins, it was only in the 19th century that explorers realized that the Ganga's source was the Gangotri Glacier -one of the largest glaciers in the Himalaya.
Mercury Himalayan Explorations Ltd. (MHE), the most recognized adventure travel company in India owes its existence in many ways to this river. Our adventure trips including climbs, treks, and rafting expeditions have, for decades, been based around the river and its myths.

Aaranyya, By the Ganges, is located in the
heart of the rafting and adventure
capital of India, at Shivpuri - just 1.5 hours drive from the closest airport and railway station, 30 min drive to the closest Ganga Aarti, and a 10 minute amble to the river itself, it is ideally located for short weekend getaways for your entire family. 
 Our 15 tastefully decorated air conditioned rooms will give you all the creature comforts you desire along with a soon to be opened Mountain Spa and Massage center. The rooms face the reserved forests of the Bhagirathi Forest range which offer abundant bird and wild life at your door step.
In addition to family adventure trips, we also offer group meeting facilities with an air-conditioned conference hall for 50 people and a sit down dining area if you so desire.

The theme of Aaranyya, By the Ganges revolves around the accomplishments of our founder and Managing Director, Col. N. Kumar (Bull), AVSM, PVSM, Kiriti Chakra, Arjuna, and Padma Shri awardee, Bull Kumar is the most decorated mountaineer in India and was also awarded the coveted MacGregor Memorial Medal in 2010. Of the 14 highest mountains in India, he has successfully led expeditions to nine of them and his most daring expedition to the Siachen Area - a prelude to the launch of Operation Meghdoot, got the Indian Army to name the main Base Camp at Siachen Glacier as The Kumar Base.
All the rooms in Aaranyya, By the Ganges have been named after Bull Kumar's climbing expeditions and Himalayan records, and offer reading material from his most famous adventures and climbs. |
