Trekking in Ladakh and Zanskar
Travellers and merchants passing through to the Silk Route have visited Ladakh through the ages. High up in the Himalayas, Ladakh is mostly Buddhist and shares borders with Tibet and Himachal Pradesh. and is part of Kashmir. The multihued mountains of Ladakh and Zanskar are dotted with small hamlets and many many monaesteries, called Gompas in the Tibetan language. The land is spectacularly preserved with its native culture still intact, as it happens in most remote mountains of the World. Ladakh and Zanskar offer trekking at higher altitudes than elsewhere in the World. The lowest altitudes in the region are 3000 Mts above sea level!
Ladakh or "La-Dags" means "land of the high passes" (La meaning 'Passes') .
An old saying goes that only the best of friends or worst of enemies visit Ladakh.
